Dr. Atwell completed his Orthopedic Residency at the Medical College of Georgia and Sports Medicine fellowship training at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine and then entered private practice in 1989. He was one of the original founders of Georgia Bone & Joint Surgeons in 1994 and has practiced in Cartersville, GA since leaving his fellowship. Dr. Atwell has avidly pursued new and innovative ideas to treat musculoskeletal pathology such as adopting the Direct Anterior Approach for total hip arthroplasty and the use of multimodal postoperative pain management protocols; both can result in markedly improved postoperative pain control and improved rehabilitation potential. He also saw the immense value in the use of Biologicals such as BMAC, PRP and amniotic membrane derivatives to treat a myriad of sometimes very difficult or recalcitrant soft tissue injuries and inflammatory conditions. His extensive experience with biologicals (personal experience as well as that gained from treating his patients) have led him to consider their use in the non-surgical treatment of many musculoskeletal conditions. He has also found biological agents to be a powerful adjunct to speed or enhance the native healing process when combined with standard surgical procedures.
Please feel free to ask Dr. Atwell any questions that you might have to determine if the use of Biological therapy is appropriate for you or contact beforesurgery.com to coordinate a consultation.
